The current: modern / prevailing / circulating / rampant / progression / flux

Fighting can be strength- standing up with determination to overcome, facilitate change, and force progress. Conversely, we can settle- resolve to give in, give up, or succumb to the current [state of events].  Occasionally the current moves in the direction we need to go, often it does not.  Our personal lives, as well as our local and global communities, are saturated with a constant tide of stressors, creating a continual need to choose the level of our involvement with progress, our level of fight.  Fighting the Current is a body of work exploring these challenges through painting and endurance performance.

It’s personal: “The Personal is the Political” [Carol Hanisch]

Platner is an artist living and working in Atlanta, GA. She is a graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design, with a BFA in painting.  Amanda’s work deals with the positive adaptation of stressful, uncontrollable situations, and determination through challenge. These themes are explored predominantly through painting and endurance performance. Her piece Bipartisan (Work Week Performance) was featured on WABE 90.1-FM’s show City Lights with Lois Reitzes, and in Atlanta Magazine.
